My Health & Wellness Plan
I created a health and wellness plan with my doctor, parents, and therapist. I made the plan to help with mental and physical health and to implement some much needed structure in my day.
The Processes of Life, Meditation Growth, & Creating Positive Resources
Today I started my day with a Daily Meditation on the Waking Up app by Sam Harris. I found this kind of meditation really easy, although in the past it’s been rather difficult. It’s really encouraging to see my progress and feel the effects of it. I created a positivity list of everyday things to do to get into the holiday spirit, reduce anxiety, and start upward spirals.
Day 20 Detachment, Wishing Within & Awareness
Today I did Day 19 of the Waking Up app, I read a passage out of The Daily Stoic, and some of the positive psychology course. It’s so fulfilling and reassuring to have important concepts overlap in many fields.
Day 19 Waking Up, METTA Meditation & Positive Emotions
Today I did Day 19 of the Waking Up app, I read a passage out of The Daily Stoic, and some of the positive psychology course. It’s so fulfilling and reassuring to have important concepts overlap in many fields.
Day 18 Waking Up, My Mind & Humility
Today I did Day 18 of the Waking Up course. Harris asked his audience to have their eyes open the whole time to experience their visual field, and then for the final minute he said to close your eyes.
Day 17 Waking Up, Openness & Stoicism
Today I did Day 17 and I read a passage from The Daily Stoic, by Ryan Holiday and Stephen Hanselman. There is a lot of food for thought introduced today. I like having multiple sources of wisdom.
Day 16 Waking Up, Explore
This morning I did Day 16 of the Waking Up course. It was a pretty simple meditation with no new concepts, just practicing breathing and exploring your mind.
Day 15 Waking Up, Distractions
Today I did Day 15 of the course. Harris continued to discuss the concept of consciousness. He said that awareness, noticing, and distractions are all a part of consciousness.
Day 14 Waking Up, Mindfulness
Today I did Day 14 of the Waking Up course, and started Barbara Frederickson’s Positive Psychology course. I’m excited to continue both and I bet I’ll see some concepts overlap.
Day 13 Waking Up, Moments
Today I did Day 13 of the Waking Up course. Harris said the point of today’s meditation is to take it and practice it (carry it with you) the rest of your day, and the importance of having a mindful moment, no matter how long.
Day 12 Waking Up, Sight
After a tiring day that started with a seven mile morning hike, I did the Day 12 meditation. Harris discussed a few new concepts while guiding me through a meditation.
Day 10 & 11 Waking Up, Separation
Today I did the Day 10 and 11 meditation after experiencing a lot of anger. After a couple of minutes of meditating my anger completely resolved, it felt so good to let go.
Day 9 Waking Up, Calm
Today I did Day 9 of the Waking Up course. I did it after doing poorly on a test. I was really stressed and sad.
Day 8 Waking Up, Grounded
It was important for me to stay grounded today. My anxiety often comes from overthinking so staying present and in the moment can really help
Day 7 Waking Up, Awareness
Today was a pretty standard meditation, although this time Harris placed great importance on the awareness of your current feelings and energy.
Day 6, Waking Up, Attention
I did Day 6 of the Waking Up course today. I decided to do it on my back outside on a towel while sunbathing.
Day 5, Waking Up, Thoughts
Day 5 was pretty unstructured, Harris put emphasis on noticing sensations, your thoughts, and your feelings.
Day 4, Waking Up, Silence
Today I did the Day 4 meditation before bed instead of first thing in the morning.
Day 3, Waking Up, Sensations
Just as sailors abide by the laws of the sea, desert inhabitants live by a code that keeps them safe in this often extreme environment. Lesson number one: Your water is everyone’s water.
Day 2, Waking Up, Breathing
Frequent readers will know that Western Africa is one of my favorite parts of the world, so my expectations were already high when I secured a lift to Bamako.
