Day 12 Waking Up, Sight

After a tiring day that started with a seven mile morning hike, I did the Day 12 meditation. Harris discussed a few new concepts while guiding me through a meditation. A part that I found really interesting was when after a few minutes of breath work, he asked his audience to slowly open their eyes and take in what was in sight. He mentioned that when we did so we were being conscious. Of course people are “conscious” at many times during the day, but when are we actually aware? Humans seem to be so caught up in their heads or in the future that they miss the present moment. Harris made me realize the importance of appreciating the moment you’re in, and to really pay attention to what surrounds you. Doing so often helps me feel grounded and present. I achieved that feeling when I opened my eyes and was conscious. I am excited to consider this practice and learn how to truly be conscious.
