Day 8 Waking Up, Grounded

I did Day 8 today. It was important for me to stay grounded. My anxiety often comes from over thinking so staying present and in the moment can really help. A way I helped myself get out of my own thoughts was picturing myself in the room and paying attention to the sounds I was hearing and where they were coming from. Harris said to focus on our breath to stay grounded and to stay relaxed but aware. He said you could count your breaths or you could just say, “In, out” to yourself. Since his meditations are pretty simple, it's given me the opportunity to feel comfortable with however I’m feeling. It’s helped me understand that there is no right or wrong way to feel while meditating, it's just noticing what arises. Noticing helps you become detached from whatever happens within. For example, meditating would help me if I were to get mad at my brother, because instead of being tied to that feeling of anger, I’m just aware that it’s there. Overall this will help me stay at a nice balance, where I won’t become unstable because of some emotion or thought. I think that idea of balance and the importance of awareness are two very important takeaways when meditating.
