Day 18 Waking Up, My Mind & Humility
Today I did Day 18 of the Waking Up course. Harris asked his audience to have their eyes open the whole time to experience their visual field, and then for the final minute he said to close your eyes. Most meditations have been the reverse, but I actually noticed I didn’t get distracted as much and felt calmer this way. Harris continued to discuss this idea that you’re not in your head or behind your face, it’s a part of you. He also continued to discuss the concept of consciousness, he added to it by explaining that you’re experiencing your mind in each moment.
I also read a passage out of the Daily Stoic called Be Down to Earth, or Be Brought Down. It warned that overconfidence can be a danger because eventually the world will humble you. To avoid “being humbled” one must stay down to earth and humble. This seems rather obvious but I feel like this advice is ignored or overlooked by most. This encourages me to self reflect and make sure to stay humble.
